Watch YouTube Star KalenReacts' Jaw-Dropping Beyoncé Tribute - Out Magazine

Posted: 04 Sep 2019 10:56 AM PDT

It is a holiday. If you didn't know before, now you know. As she said on the lead-in to her iconic track "Get Me Bodied," Beyoncé was born on "9 …. 4 … 8 … 1." And that my dear friends, means it's time for celebration.

Among the celebrants is one Kalen Allen, who shot to fame through his YouTube channel KalenReacts. On the channel, Allen watches people follow wacky recipes and, as the name suggests, reacts to them. The viral videos, and Allen's hard work, landed him a slot as a longstanding correspondent on The Ellen Show. But his latest video venture is of a different variety, celebrating the one and only Beyoncé.

In an almost eight minute video, released today, Allen recreates some of the Queen's most iconic moments. "To my muse and biggest inspiration!" he wrote on Twitter when sharing the clip — ok, this is a full-out production. "Happy birthday Beyoncé!"

This Video Tribute for Beyoncé's Birthday Will Inspire You to Show off Your Best Dance Moves - Oprah Mag

How are you celebrating Beyoncé's 38th birthday? Her mother, Tina Knowles-Lawson, took to Instagram Wednesday morning to post an endearing message for her alongside a photo in which they look like sisters. But if, like us, you don't have a photo of yourself with Queen Bey to share, we suggest watching (and turning up the volume on) Kalen Allen's "Bey-Dey: A Visual Tribute" medley.

Who is Kalen Allen? You might recognize the 23-year-old comedian as a correspondent on The Ellen Show, a gig he earned after years of cracking up fans on YouTube and just about every social media platform. (And fun fact: He's even received a comment on his 'gram from the one and only Oprah Winfrey.) But now, he can add Beyoncé impersonator to his resume.

In the new clip, Allen slips into bodysuit after bodysuit, switching up his wigs, shoes, and attitude, and to embody his Beyoncé. Not only is it spot-on but it'll also make you want to listen to every single album in Beyoncé's impressive catalog—and perhaps replicate a look or two of your own.

The mix of songs is also on-point, and includes the following hits: "Crazy in Love," "Naughty Girl," "Déjà vu," Ring the Alarm," "Schoolin' Life," "Single Ladies," "Flawless," "Formation," "Run the World (Girls)," and "Diva," plus tracks made with Destiny's Child ("Say My Name") and her husband Jay-Z ("APES**"). An Easter egg to look out for? His take on that epic 2011 performance of "Love on Top" at the MTV VMAs, where she flaunted her baby bump in a purple sequin suit and announced to the world she was expecting.

Enough talking, more singing and dancing. Watch the full video above—which was so impressive that it even earned a "Thank you" from Queen Bey herself on Facebook!

The Dobre Brothers are taking over America — one YouTube video at a time. - Houston Chronicle

Posted: 04 Sep 2019 05:26 AM PDT

The Dobre Brothers are all about getting things lit.

Ask these four backslapping Maryland bros — twins Marcus and Lucas, 20; Darius, 24; Cyrus, 25 — about the last time they performed in Houston and Dallas, they'll say, "It was crazy. It was lit."

If you want to guess which of their songs is the most lit, you don't have to go any deeper than the 2017 track "You Know You Lit," which showcases its lit-worthiness right in the title and has racked up more than 104 million YouTube views.

But what's really lit is their social-media-spawned career, which brings them to Houston's Warehouse Live on Sunday afternoon as part of a 21-city tour. See, these guys aren't really a band per se, even though, in addition to their big YouTube hit, they've got such songs as "On the Real Tho" and "No Fakes." Instead, they are the internet made flesh — without the trolling and the grossness but with all the marketing savvy.

A few years ago, Lucas and Marcus started posting videos on the defunct platform Vine of themselves dancing, performing comedy, gymnastics and, most importantly, back flips. (The Dobres are the sons of gymnast Aurelia Dobre, an Olympic medalist, and Boz Mofid, a gymnastics coach, so the flips — often filmed in store aisles among surprised shoppers — were kind of a natural go-to for their idea of killing time.)

But the videos took off, especially among tweens. Cyrus, who has a master's degree in strategic communications from the University of Iowa, and Darius, who was studying finance at Towson University, later joined them to make it a family affair, launching the foursome Dobre Brothers YouTube channel in the summer of 2017. Even their parents occasionally show up in the videos.

Once on YouTube, the videos of their pranks, dares, stunts and goofball jocularity garnered even more fans — and agent representation from CAA (home of Beyoncé, Tom Hanks and Rocket Chris Paul) and a lifestyle that, according to a recent profile in the Washington Post, involved a Ferrari 812 Superfast Stallone Mansory and a McLaren 720S Vorsteiner Silverstone Edition for a recent LA stay. Today, the Dobre Brothers — the Beatles of the back flip — sport a combined total of more than 36 million followers over their various YouTube and Instagram channels, including one, unsurprisingly, devoted to exotic cars.

They now rank as one of the best-known YouTube celebrities along with the likes of Texas-spawned Dude Perfect (who just performed at the Toyota Center in early August) and California's Jake Paul (with whom Marcus and Lucas collaborated in the early days) while avoiding the controversies that have clouded the careers of such others as PewDiePie and Jake Paul's older brother, Logan Paul.

Staying positive

So they sound like they're in a good mood when I get them — all of them, though Darius and Cyrus do most of the talking — on the phone. "We wanted to bring the videos to life and give the fans the chance to interact with us in person as part of the show," says Darius of why they decided to expand beyond the laptop and phone screen to the stage.

"We do the pre-show meet-and-greet as well as the post-show meet-and-greet, and we bring the fans on stage so there's a lot of engagement," adds Cyrus.

The Dobres maintain that parents like them as much as their kids because the material is family-safe and positive. "A lot of them have gone through tough times and (we hear from them) personally about how we helped them," continues Cyrus, "whether it's with depression or a loss in the family or getting kids on a more positive note, getting kids to do well in school or the sport they're involved in."

But just because they're on the road doesn't mean they're sacrificing their day job of making videos. If anything, the videos still have a home-movie appeal but are getting slightly more elaborate, with one posted on Aug. 31, titled "Is This From Area 51?," that aims for a "Blair Witch Project" vibe.

"We want to keep it very original because a lot of times it's difficult to come across different content on YouTube, so we try to come up with something new, outside the box," says Darius. "We post five videos a week between the channels, and we're going to keep that going forever."

No personal life?

But doesn't such a commitment to all things Dobre make it hard to have a personal life? Don't they get tired of the four-Musketeers comic camaraderie (especially now that Cyrus is married to Christina Kay, a social-media influencer in her own right. The Cyrus & Christina YouTube channel boasts more than 2.2 million subscribers.)

"We're not always physically together all the time," says Darius of his siblings, "but we always try to stay close in case we need to film something. We love being around each other, and we're each others' best friends, so we don't mind that at all."

"I'm married now, so I have my own house with my girl, but I'm always with my brothers, too," says Cyrus.

As for where they see themselves in, say, five years, they're looking forward to much of the same. "We will always stick together," says Darius. "We're going to continue to do YouTube. The YouTubers I would watch when I was 13 or 14, they're still doing YouTube today and they're all killing it. It's what we love to do, you know, it's not a job.

"Obviously, there are going to be times when Cyrus gets a really big brand deal because he fits the niche they're looking for. Or Lucas and Marcus might do a brand deal. … But no matter what it is, we are going to stick together and keep doing what we're doing."

Adds Cyrus, "It's a very successful business, and we have it down. We have a formula."

Watch Beyoncé's Spirit Video with Blue Ivy for The Lion King - HarpersBAZAAR.com

Posted: 17 Jul 2019 12:00 AM PDT

  • Beyoncé has released a new music video for her Lion King–inspired song, "Spirit," which includes a cameo from her seven-year-old daughter, Blue Ivy Carter.
  • The visuals are meant to show "beauty of color, the beauty of melanin, the beauty of tradition," the singer said in a rare TV interview with Robin Roberts.
  • Beyoncé, who voices Nala in the upcoming remake of The Lion King, has also executive-produced an album inspired by the film.

Beyoncé features her and Jay-Z's seven-year-old daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, in her new "Spirit" music video, which she released last night. The song is a new original from Queen Bey and appears in the remake of The Lion King, in theaters Friday. Bringing the song to life, the superstar tapped a team of dancers, a stellar wardrobe, and her mini-me for the stunning visuals.

"The concept of the video is to show how God is the painter and natural beauty in nature needs no art direction," she told Robin Roberts in a rare TV interview for Good Morning America. "It's the beauty of color, the beauty of melanin, the beauty of tradition."

Surely enough, Beyoncé sings and dances in front of a series of gorgeous natural backdrops, from the desert to a waterfall. The majestic settings are the perfect match for her empowering lyrics like, "So go into that far-off land / And be one with the great I am."

In many scenes, she's joined by a group of talented dancers. The styling is consistently epic throughout the piece, making the project feel larger than life.

"It was important that we weren't just inspired by Africa, but that we actually included and learned from the motherland," the singer added.

She's also executive-produced an album called The Lion King: The Gift, consisting of original music inspired by the film. For the project, which she described as a "love letter to Africa," Beyoncé teamed with other big names, including Kendrick Lamar, Pharrell Williams, and Childish Gambino (or Lion King co-star Donald Glover). However, she also made sure to feature African artists like Tiwa Savage, Mr Eazi, Shatta Wale, and Burna Boy. The album will also be released Friday.

Beyoncé, who voices Nala in the remake, revealed that she has a close connection to the film as a parent. "Being a mother, my family is my biggest priority," she said. "It's not many films that the parents can go and feel the way I feel about The Lion King and … pass that legacy on to their kids." Perhaps that explains Blue Ivy's spot in her new video.
