This beautiful gemstone is a rare violet diamond. Discovered in August 2015, the Argyle Violet is named for Australia's remote Argyle mine where it was found. The mine is the source of 90% of the world's pink and red diamonds but a violet beauty like this one is an incredibly rare find.
The rough diamond, whose official color is Fancy Deep Greyish Bluish Violet, weighed 9.17 carats. The diamond was then cut and polished down to a 2.83 oval-shaped diamond. The violet diamond will be the centerpiece of Rio Tinto's anuual pink diamonds showcase.

The stunning Argyle Violet is expected to capture the attention of the world's leading collectors.
